This  type of kokyet (turban) of the Meiteis , as the name suggest , this style of wearing turban was borrowed from the Ajmeri style of Rajasthan. The uniqueness of wearing this turban is that the left side of the turban extends irregularly to cover the left ear, while the right side dips up above the lobe of right ear. The dovetail like hackle is raised at the top by carrying the left end portion over the turban at its top mid while the right ends hanging freely at the back, reaching up to the waist.

It was introduced during the reign of the Manipur king , Maharaja Sir Churachand Singh,  K.S.C.I(1891-1941). He adopted this style of wearing after his return from Ajmer where he had education by the patron of the British Government. Initially, it was reserved only for the king and his royal brothers. Later on, the Holi band (Holi band is a group of singers and drummers performing their acts on the Yaoshang festival) of the king was permitted to use this style of wearing turban. It is still worn  by the Holi band during the Yaoshang(Dolajatra festival).
